Bike or Die!

Szymon Ulatowski, the famed developer of Bike or Die! has just posted an iPhone gameplay video of his upcoming game, Bike or Die 2. More after the jump!

Seasoned Palm OS users would immediately describe Bike or Die! as the best trial bike racing game for the platform. It features physics-based bike simulation with smooth and fast animation. The game comes with 25 built-in levels of varying environments from hills to rocks, snow, caves and many more. User generated content account for about 2000 different levels, ready for download and install once you complete the built-in ones. The game also features an ability to record and replay your best games, great when you need to boast around colleagues and friends. These recordings are then uploadable to an online Hall-of-Fame. If I recall correctly, I am currently ranked at #1480. *grin*

According to Szymon’s post over at ToySpring’s discussion forum, the iPhone version of the game is almost identical to its cousin, the Palm OS version except for the fact that the iPhone version will use on-screen buttons for control and will feature a different font (which is the iPhone’s built-in font, if I am not mistaken). Rendering will be done via OpenGL, which gives a much smoother and better-looking bitmaps. The new rendering method also helps in the implementation of a new (silly) trick: rotating the world instead of the biker.

Syzmon also mentioned about using the iPhone’s built-in accelerometer for control, which is actually a disaster and finally concluded that the game is more comfortable to have buttons instead.

No release date is set for the game. However, Syzmon mentioned that he’s currently ironing out the remaining bugs. Once that’s done, it will be the normal submission process to Apple before the game appears in the AppStore.

Stay tuned!
