TechCrunch reported that the VideoEgg ad network will soon be filling up those free iPhone/iPod touch apps with, well, ads!
VideoEgg is known for its video and social-app ads that tempts users to click on them in order to open up a Flash window that is filled with videos, maps or applications that educate consumers about a certain brand name. The company will only charge advertisers if and when a consumer engages with the ad.
It will be taking the same approach when it comes to the iPhone. A small banner shall soon appear on the top of the screen of your favorite free application. Clicking on this banner shall reveal a video or a mini website that provides more information about the brand advertised.
VideoEgg’s Chief Marketing Officer, Troy Young has this to say on their decision to extend to the mobile arena:
The reason we are interested in it now is because it is becoming a media consumption platform. The things people are doing on the iPhone are more like media consumption so we think that we can get people to spend time with brands.
Traditionally, mobile ads tend to perform weakly, but that’s not the case when it comes to the iPhone. AdMob, another mobile ad network has seen success for their campaigns on the iPhone.
For now, VideoEgg’s plans are simple. Charge the same for mobile ads as it does for their web ads. Until the numbers prove them worthy, that shall stay for some time being.
A check over at VideoEgg.com reveals that they have already signed up both Nikon and Ubisoft to be their first clients that will be leveraging on this new platform for their mobile advertising needs. Nikon will be using the VideoEgg mobile platform to promote their CoolPix and D90 cameras. No mention of Ubisoft’s plans, but we are quite sure that the famed video games publisher would definitely be promoting their big name games, like Far Cry 2 and the coming Prince of Persia game.
