Just a little over a week after it was launched, Ocarina, Smule‘s second application for the iPhone is now the top paid app on the iTunes App Store. The app, which was named after an ancient flute-like wind instrument, allows users to play haunting, flute-like songs simply by blowing into the iPhone’s microphone and hitting some virtual buttons that appears on the screen.
You see, just like its first application, the (social) Virtual Lighter, iPhone users are fascinated for the fact that they can be interacting with others. The lighter app allowed users to compete geographically for the brightest light, while Ocarina allowed them to listen to music by other users.
The cool feature is, you can hit a button and listen to what other Ocarina users are playing around the world. That’s social music and it is compelling. Smule claims that Ocarina users have listened to more than three million melodies thru the application.
Sounds interesting? The application is currently available for $0.99 from the iTunes App Store. Click this link to check it out and purchase. The Virtual Lighter app (called Sonic Lighter) is available here.
