Breaking news! AT&T is now offering the option of purchasing an iPhone online and then self-activating it in the comfort of your home. No more queues to stand in. This is in contrast with previous policies where the iPhone had to be brought over to an AT&T or Apple store in order to be activated. Of note is that this process is only offered via AT&T and not Apple’s own online store.

Gadgetell had an interesting conversation with an AT&T representative who mentioned about activation process by placing the battery into the phone. No, the iPhone battery remains stuck hard into the casing. There’s no way you could take it out. It was purely a miscommunication.

This change in policy is seen a welcomed one, just in time for the holiday season. But don’t fret if you can’t activate the iPhone you got on Christmas morning. We all know how Apple’s server gets bombed during seasonal holidays.
