Here’s another application for the iPhone by our friends at Redmond, Washington. Microsoft’s first application for the iPhone, Seadragon Mobile, deals with photography. Tag Reader more or less does the same.
Using the application is simple. Center the barcode and ensure that it fills half of the screen, while at the same time avoiding casting shadows or reflections over the barcode. Maintain a steady hand after the click and then press the “Use Photo” button.
Tag Reader uses Microsoft’s Tag mobile tagging service to connect users directly to information and entertainment, minus the need of typing in long URLs or sending puzzling codes to equally puzzling short codes. This is done by simply snapping a picture of the tag using the phone’s built-in camera. Microsoft’s Tag system consists of a multicolored barcode system which are basically 2D barcodes. The system can be used to transform marketing media like print, advertising, billboards, packaging and merchandising into live links for easy access to information and entertainment online.
The app will only install on an iPhone, so if you have one, give it a try via the iTunes Store here. It’s free.
