Missed the March Madness? Famed developer, Skyworks Interactive’s brings to us yet another sports title with 3 Point Hoops Basketball.
3 Point Hoops Basketball features two game modes, Classic and Sudden Death.
In Classic mode, you are required to shoot from five unique positions around the 3-point line. The game has a very simple shooting mechanism, thus minimizing the learning curve. Simply flick your finger towards the basket in order to send you ball flying. Surprisingly, this title does not make use of the iPhone’s accelerometer. Thus, the only factors that decide if the throw scores or not is the speed and direction of your flick. Sudden Death mode puts your game at stake – if you miss a shot, its game over and shower time.
Both game modes let you shoot a ‘bonus ball’ at every point position for a 5-point score instead of the usual 3-point.
Comparing both modes, I believe everyone would definitely choose Classic mode to play with. Customization options for Sudden Death mode would be a very welcomed addition – I’m thinking of giving myself 3 miss shots before calling it quits.
Similar to most of Skyworks Interactive’s sports title, this game makes use of a realistic physics engine. Balls bounce off the rim and backboard just like how it would in the real world. Making it even more realistic is the witty comments from the announcer and the cheers and jeers from fans around the stadium. Unlike the real world, I love the fact that you don’t have to pick up the balls yourself, they magically appear in your hands ready for the next throw.
Graphics and effects-wise, the game features ‘state of the iPhone’ 3D graphics. Treating your ears while you play is a selection of two rocking soundtracks. I’d love to see the game automatically play both soundtracks in sequence instead of playing the only track chosen by the player.
Aside to the local high score board, the game also includes a global online high score table. You can now compare and brag about your highest score with players from around the world. You’ll need to first create a user account with Skyworks Interactive in order to begin submitting your high scores. Nevertheless, this is a great addition and adds the ‘one more round’ factor to the already addictive game.
Overall speaking, this is another great arcade title from Skyworks Interactive. If you have a few moments to spare while queueing up or while commuting to work, then this is definitely the title to launch on your iPhone.
