Field Goal FrenzySkyworks is getting right into the game, this time around with Field Goal Frenzy, another addictive arcade masterpiece centered around the world of American football.

Field Goal Frenzy - Title ScreenCounting previously released titles like QB Pass Attack Football and X’s & O’s Football, this is the third football-related title from Skyworks. Having played the game for some time now, I can guarantee you that Skyworks delivered again.

Moving away from the centre of the field which is the focus of QB Pass Attack Football, Field Goal Frenzy tests your skills at making field goal attempts starting from 30 yards right all the way to 60 yards away from the goal posts.

Like most of Skywork’s games, Field Goal Frenzy features two modes, Practice and Classic.

Begin your career with Practice mode, where you get to decide how far out the ball is from the goal. Start from the 30 yard and position the ball at five-yard intervals. Practice mode is very forgiving, so you get to practice and fine-tune your kicking skills.

Field Goal Frenzy - Classic ModeOnce you get accustomed to the game, upgrade to the more challenging Classics mode where every kick counts. Start from the same 30 yard line, attempting field goals from three different positions – centre, left and right, then move five-yard further away, repeating the same. Miss the goal five times and it’s back to the sidelines.

Field Goal Frenzy uses a flick system to get the ball kicking. Accelerometer is fully-utilized in the game. Once the ball starts flying, tilt your device left or right to control its direction – very helpful in fighting the game’s realistic wind effects.

The flick system is very easy to get used to – in fact, there’s no need to flick faster or harder in order to make the ball fly further. The ball flies all the way towards the goal as long as your flick is done in a single smooth swipe. Your usual headache would be controlling the ball’s direction using the accelerometer. One thing missing from the game is the ability to calibrate the accelerometer. I find that on my device, the accelerometer tends to sway towards the right.

Field Goal Frenzy - 60 Yard Score!Effects-wise, the graphics are very polished and well detailed. The game features a single sound track which somehow doesn’t play on certain occassions.

Field Goal Frenzy also features the same local and global high scores board – players can now compete and compare their scores with every other players from around the world. Signing up is required in order to submit your high scores to the board. A single sign-on system is used, so if you recently submitted your high score for another Skyworks game, the same login can be used here.

If you are a football fan, Field Goal Frenzy is definitely a sure hit while you wait for the NFL games or even after listening to a game analysis by Madden.

Field Goal Frenzy is available from the iTunes App Store at only $1.99 each. Get your copy and start practicing on those kicks.
