The great guys and gals over at Proporta was generous enough to send me a review unit, which is the more complete version with both adapters.
First in the package, you’ll find (obviously) the Universal Emergency Charger. It’s appearance – sleek and slim, almost smaller than a deck of cards. Although slimmer, its white color reminds me of my first 40GB iPod photo. Inside the unit is a high powered rechargeable battery that is capable of storing an impressive 2500 mAh of power. That amount of power means the unit is capable of charging your iPhone, iPod touch, iPod, mobile phones, GPS, digital cameras or almost any devices that can be powered from a USB port. I mentioned ‘almost any devices’ because the device somehow would not charge my PS3′s SixAxis controller. It seems a little weird, but I could charge the PS3 controller using my laptop. The Universal Emergency Charger can be charged from any USB ports (yes, charge from USB port and charge other devices with a USB port *grin*).
Although the Universal Emergency Charger is already pre-charged to about 50-75%, it is highly recommended that you charge the Universal Emergency Charger to its full 100% capacity before charging your other devices with the unit. A charge indicator that also serves as a power gauge lets you know when the device is fully charged. Depending on your devices’ power consumption, the Universal Emergency Charger is capable of up to three full charges. I managed to fully charge my iPod touch three times during one of the tests.
Accompanying the Universal Emergency Charger is a package full of connectors. There are six in total, one universal connector for the iPhone/iPod, a Nokia ‘slim’ charger (suitable for newer Nokia models), one Sony Ericsson and one Samsung mobile phone connector, a PSP charger connector as well as a (universal) micro-USB connector. This package alone covers almost 99% of the devices out there. A retractable cable connects these connectors to the USB port on the Universal Emergency Charger.
Charging your devices with the Universal Emergency Charger is simple. Choose the right connector, plug one end to your device, then connect the other end to the USB port on the charger. The charge indicator on the charger also acts to inform you if it is charging your device. Simple.
Next in the package is Proporta’s USB Travel Charger, a great addition to your arsenal of chargers, especially when travelling. Using the charger is simple. Snap in the appropriate adaptor for your region, then insert the device that you want to charge into the USB port before plugging in the charger to a wall socket. Adaptors for UK, European, Australasia and USA are included in the package. Also, the device automatically switches itself to accept input voltage from 110 to 240 volts at 50-60 Hz, suitable for use worldwide. As with all standard USB chargers, the charger is fit for use with any electronic devices that requires less than 1000 milliamps of power.
Last but not least, is the Proporta Dual USB In-Vehicle Charger. This small little charger works its magic from any standard car cigarette lighter and is capable of charging up to two USB devices. The verdict? This is a complete charging package for any road warrior and power user, including regular users who would appreciate this even more during the days when they run out of charge. Anything (almost) that charges thru USB, charges with the Universal Emergency Charger!
