When Skyworks sent me news of their new game, World Cup Ping Pong, I knew it would be great. We have previously reviewed quite a number of Skyworks games and they have all fared pretty well.

Ping pong, or otherwise known as table tennis in other parts of the world, is a game played quite similarly to, well, tennis. World Cup Ping Pong is entirely touch-controlled. Tap and drag the paddle to move it across the screen. If you fancy some acrobatics, try swiping when you hit the ball to give it a little spin and trick the computer player. Regardless of how you play the game, standard ping pong rules apply.

Origin8 has just sent us news on their up and coming sequel to Sentinel: Mars Defense. Appropriately titled Sentinel 2: Earth Defense, the game expands upon the critically acclaimed gameplay of the original game, plus a host of new features.

It’s war, and this time it’s too close to home. The Martian mission may be over, but the aliens haven’t finished playing space invaders yet!

Action now takes place across varied, lushly rendered Earth environments as the dropship Sentinel battles to repel an extra-terrestrial threat to humanity. The alien assault force has grown more vicious than ever. Luckily, human turret technology has also advance, thus the ship weapons system provides for a spectacular new way to eradicate the uninvited invaders.

Here’s a rundown of what’s new in Sentinel 2: Earth Defense:

• Unleash the Sentinel’s incredible ship weapons system – if you’ve got the power to do so
• Deploy mobile attack drones to harass the enemy and augment static defenses
• Construct boosters to buff your offense, and upgrade to top-tier towers for devastating special moves!
• Pit yourself against previously unseen members of the star spawned horde
• Mission mode provides quick tactical challenges. Beat a scenario to earn achievements
• Full online highscores, achievements, friends and chat using the OpenFeint 2.0 system.

Classic Sentinel features such as specialised structures and units, usable landscape and destructible defenses, resource harvesting and interest system as well as visually stunning environments, towers and enemies will still be available so players of the original game should feel at home.

Sentinel 2: Earth Defense has been submitted to Apple for review and approval, and should be available shortly. Watch out for an announcement when it arrives and our review of the game later. For now, feel free to check out the screenshots and gameplay footage of the game.

UPDATE: Moments after we published the review, SGN’s update for FAST went online in the iTunes Store, adding Bluetooth support. Also the game is now available at a reduced price of only $5.99 $4.99. Early adopters who paid the premium price of $9.99 will get a special treat soon. Now there’s no more excuse not to start an online war! Check out our review and then go grab the game!

We previously covered this game when it was announced in TechCrunch. I managed to secure a copy for my iPod touch, and after spending about a week plus with the game, I am impressed.

Originally slated to be a free game, with premium In-App purchases later, SGN’s F.A.S.T – Fleet Air Superiority Training! (subsequently referred to as FAST) turned out to be a premium-priced title, selling for $9.99 $5.99 $4.99 a copy in the iTunes Store. For a ticket that steep, it turned out to be a very entertaining and exciting game. In fact, this could be one of the best full 3D, complete-controlled dogfighting game available to date for the iPhone platform.
