Apple really is getting the game on with the iPod touch. Just recently added to their iPod touch product page is a gallery with 14 games showcased. Quite a number of high quality games were featured, including titles from Freeverse, Astraware and Pangea Software. I have uploaded them onto our YouTube channel. Check out the playlist I created below.
Don’t forget to hit the link after the jump to see a short description of all 14 games that was featured.
Have you ever wondered what are the games or apps that Apple demos in their TV ads? I have just shared one of Apple’s latest ads for the iPod touch which focused on gaming via the tagline of More Fun into our YouTube channel.
Surprisingly, there is also a dedicated page within the iTunes Store that showcases each of the above games and apps. Notable titles include hits like Astraware’s Platypus, Pangea Software’s Nanosaur 2 and Bugdom 2, Gameloft’s Real Soccer 2009, Freeverse’s Flick Fishing, EA’s SimCity and also ngmoco’s Rolando. There are currently 15 titles altogether with prices ranging from FREE to $7.99.
Imagine the look on my face when I see the price tag of this application listed within AppSniper’s New Apps page – Multi Lingua by Luna Apps Inc. AppSniper lets you track price drops and new applications that are added to the iTunes App Store. Read my review of this superb application here.
Anyhow, I went on and checked out the application’s description. It sounds a little vague, but the indication that a network connection is required gives the idea that this is just another translator application using one of the freely available web services, such as Google Translate. The author also claims that the application has a ‘gorgeous’ interface, but did not provide any screenshots other than the one pictured on the right – click to see this ‘gorgeous’ interface in its full glory. Heck, this app was submitted to the app store while its still (probably) buggy – the version number provided is v0.91.
Click here to check out the app in the iTunes Store. I’d suggest that you stay away and refrain from buying, even if you have the cash to spare. There are many other translator apps out there that does more but costs less. Take a look at iTranslate instead – price: $0.00.
UPDATE: The app is now known as Handy Book. Its description has also been changed, with the reference to ‘gorgeous’ interface removed. If you click on the support link from within iTunes, you’ll see a warning about the content of the coming page, with most part of it still a work-in-progress. Gasp!
A recent report by ComScore pointed out a fact that most mobile developers have already know by now: iPhone (inclusive of the iPod touch) users are far more likely to download games and apps when compared to other smartphone users.
The report further claimed that mobile gaming has increased by a large 17 percent from November 2007 to November 2008, all thanks to the growth of new mobile handhelds like the iPhone, while low-end non-smartphone devices see a drop of 14 percent in mobile game downloads. Meanwhile, smartphone game downloads too a jump of almost 300 percent during the same period of time. In fact, last Christmas alone saw a spike in the number of new iPod touch devices activated.
the iPhone Blog has just chimed in that the Ustream Viewing Application, by Ustream.tv, Inc. for both the iPhone and iPod touch has just gone life a few minutes ago in the App Store; just in time for the 2009 Presidential Inauguration of President Barack Obama.
It is Wi-Fi only (you wouldn’t want a 30-page bill) and allows you to stream the video straight to your device, so get near a router to witness this historic moment in human history.
The app is free for the taking, so head over to the iTunes Store for the download.
